It has taken me five years and three universities across three countries – Australia, Canada and the Philippines – before realising that a low paid career in Journalism is where I want to invest my HECS debt. But in all my travels and experiences within varied cultures and lecture halls, I have always been certain of one thing. Writing is my itch.
In 2005, I completed by first year of Biology at Xavier University, Philippines, at the behest of my parents who hoped that I would someday grow to accept a career in Medicine. But my overwhelming itch to write only led to a year of non-biology related pursuits as a features writer for my student publication, The Crusader. Today I have taken hold of my own career aspirations and am currently completing my International Studies and Journalism majors at Monash University where I continue to write for the student paper, Threshold. In 2008 I studied a semester abroad at Simon Fraser University, Canada, and celebrated my post exams by travelling across Peru and watching the sunrise at Machu Picchu before venturing into the outskirts of the Amazon Jungle. I have had my work published in The Dandenong Journal after spending two weeks as an awkward and annoyingly eager work experience student. I am looking forward to completing another week of work experience in March, 2009, with Pacific Magazine’s Home Beautiful editorial team. Today I write random notes on my Facebook account and look forward to reading my weekly subscription to TIME.
